Our mission

I'm Gill, and I started NUVEVIT after spending the best part of three years being told there was nothing wrong with me.

My hair began thinning in my late forties, around the time the menopause started making itself known, and I put it down to stress and carried on. It didn't stop, and it wasn't only my hair. My skin had lost its glow, my face looked looser than it used to, and my nails were splitting before they grew past my fingertips. It was all going at once, and I felt like I was ageing far quicker than I should have been. I went to my GP about it more than once and came away each time with the same answer: that it was my age, that it was hormonal, that this is simply what happens to women. Nobody was ever unkind about it. It just wasn't treated as a problem worth solving.

So I went and found the answers myself. I read an enormous amount, some of it useful and a good deal of it nonsense, and eventually I started paying to see trichologists privately, which is where I finally got somewhere. They asked the questions nobody else had thought to ask, and they explained what was actually going on. My ferritin was 41, a number I had never heard of and that nobody had ever mentioned to me. Hair depends far more on what is happening underneath than anyone had bothered to tell me, and so does the rest of it.

It took me years and a fair amount of money to learn what I now know, and it shouldn't have.

That is really the whole reason this shop exists. Our mission is a straightforward one: to take the things that genuinely change how your hair, skin and nails behave, what your body has in reserve and whether it is actually reaching you, and put them somewhere a woman can find them without having to become an expert first. No miracle promises, no thirty-ingredient blends, and nothing here that I wouldn't happily take myself.

I had women my own age in mind when I built it, because I know how isolating it is to watch yourself change and sense that nobody is particularly interested. But this isn't only a menopause story. The same things go wrong at twenty-five, after a baby, after an illness, after a difficult year, and they can be put right at any age.

I'm not a doctor and I've never claimed to be. I'm a woman who couldn't get a straight answer and went looking for one, and everything in this shop is what I found.
